Sharing blog on Facebook notes : Is anyone really reading?

Around a decade ago, facebook rolled in with the notes section for the users to write posts longer than 60,000 characters, such as articles, blog posts, poems, etc., and share it with a larger audience to grow more readers. Although, most of you might not even know about the feature.

While the notes feature looked less like a blogging feature, it was more like a diary for the user to share long blog-like posts. The feature did become ‘cool’ and ‘famous’ in its early days, as writers found a way to share their write-ups with their friends through this medium. However, it died quickly too! Lately, Facebook has revamped its notes section to compete it with other blogging and business websites, but does it even stand in the competition?

The new notes section has basic formatting elements, like, highlighting text, creating hyperlink, adding bullets or numbers, adding H1 or H2 tag, and a cover photo for the post. Yet Facebook has still not been able to make up to the level of blogging sites. How?

Facebook notes doesn’t provide themes like popular blogging websites to make it colorful and engaging for the reader. Even though the feature is free for the users, writers, and business pages, allowing you to post as many write-ups with no word limit to grow readers and attract your potential customers, what would you do if Facebook rolls out the feature any time?

If Facebook rolls out the feature, you won’t be able to recover your long posts ever. And that, you wouldn’t wish! Therefore, Facebook notes doesn’t rule out the blog posts section on a business website or a blogging website. The plus point of Facebook notes is that you don’t get to start at zero unlike your business or blogging website where you have to first promote the site to get followers. What you can do is include the backlink of your website in the note to drive traffic from your Facebook.

The new notes feature allows you to embed pictures and videos in your note, and use HTML codes if you are good with it. Having an HTML knowledge is just a brownie point for your notes section as you will be able to make your note more attractive.

What can you share in your notes for your business page?

  • Aim and mission of your business.
  • Information about your products or services.
  • News related to your business for your potential or existing customers.
  • Additional details about events and promotions of your business.
  • A thank you note for your followers.

So what is it that Facebook notes doesn’t provide for people to write there continuously?

The drawback of posting blogs and write-ups in your Facebook notes of your business page is that it does not allow you to boost the post like you can boost your other posts. You can boost and promote your pictures and videos but not your Facebook notes. While boosting and promoting the note is an issue, it doesn’t reach a larger audience of your page. Neither can you connect to analytics to integrate the data. Therefore, you will not be able to see who viewed your note(s) and how many people it reached.

While the reach is low, and the content is less attractive, the point here is who is reading the notes?

You never know about the readers of your notes in comparison to your website because you don’t know, how many people it reached. As a matter of fact, most of the people on Facebook are there to build connections with people and not read blog-like notes; if they wanted to read, they would do that on a blogging site. Additionally, the content is less attractive for the users to read and engage in note-reading. So you tell me, is any of you reading the Facebook notes?
